Most married people faced with this question will say no. For those people who can settle amicably and at least cost - a minority - they are likely to obtain a best possible result for all the family and may not need much by way of support, except to tie up the legal aspects. But for the rest, by the time they progress the split they will be so worn out by the emotional aspects of being in a disintegrating relationship that their ability to take enormous decisions - including how best to seek help - is often impaired.
I know through personal experience and through my business as The Divorce Coach that there really is a shortage of really useful practical, emotional and financial help through divorce. I've recognised this for years, which is why I set up my practice offering the support I needed - and couldn't find - when I went through my divorce.
SW Support Forums in SW London
But I didn't know how to address the need in an informal way until a client suggested a 'divorce networking evening.' The first forum launched in July and you can read more here in my blog.
Here's what attendees said:
* the group sessions were really useful
* good to talk to others in same situation
* ..specifically helped me to feel more positive and see I am in a better place now..
* I liked the group sessions and brainstorming ideas...
Chris said: I met different people with the same kind of problems and got some strength from them to go forward with my life. Please keep going with these meetings because there are plenty of people who need help..

The Through Divorce and Beyond Support Forum meet in Twickenham on the second Wednesday of the month from October, with the next meeting on 5th September.
If you (or anyone you know who is struggling through serious relationship breakdown) live in and around SW London and are looking for self-help through relationship breakdown, here's the official blurb below. However, if you live further afield and you're interested in the concept, do get in touch as there is much interest in the concept from both prospective participants and facilitators and I'm keen to take the idea beyond Richmond and Twickenham :)
When you don't know where to turn, find help at the Divorce Coach Through Divorce and Beyond Support Forum in Twickenham, next meeting on Wednesday 5 September 6.15pm
Come along to hear the divorce expert's tips for the best possible split and meet and share ideas with others who can help and who are themselves going through the experience.
* If you're facing separation and divorce and don't know where to turn...
* If you're going through the process but have stalled or hit obstacles...
* If you've come out the other side but know there are still lots of unanswered questions...
.
...then this is your chance to find practical solutions in a safe and supportive group.
